Painting on the Cheap

by Michelle on May 14, 2011

Tonight this is what we’ve got going on at our house.

We picked up this little chest at a garage sale a few years ago because I envisioned it repainted black placed in the entry below a large mirror. It sat half-sanded in the garage for a couple of years, then spent a year in my craft room in the corner.

The other day I was at the hardware store and came across a quart of “oops” paint in a really dark (hopefully black) color for $2.00. I knew I could at least use it as a primer if it turned out to be a bad shade.

Tonight I got a wild hair and decided to sand and paint the poor, neglected chest. I’ve only slathered on one coat so I can’t tell what it’s going to look like, but so far so good. I’ll post “after” pics once it gets another coat and cute knobs.

The Royal Wedding

by Michelle on April 29, 2011

Did you watch the wedding? I didn’t hear my alarm, but was able to catch the last few minutes of it. At first glance, I was disappointed in Kate’s dress. It is a beautiful dress but I thought she’d pick something less traditional.

It seems William and Kate really love each other. They make a beautiful couple. I think Lady Diana was looking down at them today and beaming.

Spring Roses

by Michelle on April 6, 2011

I cut the first roses of the season and placed them in vases for display. The pink and yellow roses are Peace and the purple roses are Blue Girl roses.

Joey has planted and grown roses for me since we bought our first house. When we moved here, he planted five rosebushes and this is their third year to bloom. Gorgeous!

Fresh Flowers

by Michelle on March 21, 2011

Treated myself to some tulips. They were on sale for $2.99 at Kroger. Couldn’t pass them up. They make me smile. Mr. Bunn is keeping a close watch over them.

More for the Wish List

by Michelle on March 14, 2011

I received an email newsletter from ABC Stitch Therapy announcing new arrivals. There are some really cute designs. These are a couple of my favorites.

I have a thing for chairs so immediately this pattern caught my attention. But the mention of ironstone really did it for me.

The stork scissors are so sweet. And then of course there’s the crown…doesn’t take much for me!

Quilt Show

by Michelle on March 13, 2011

Oh my goodness! I had soooo much fun today. I attended the Dallas Quilt Celebration with my husband’s aunt and cousins. This was the first quilt show I’ve ever been to and there was so much to see and touch.

I fondled and drooled over so many kits, fabrics and notions. And I got my hands on a longarm quilting machine. Oh my!

Of course I couldn’t walk away empty handed and left the show with a few things in hand. I got a table runner kit with Lakeside Penelope fabrics and big unusual button embellishments, The Big As Texas Star pattern by Nora Bryan and Pattie Stevens, Faith (Collection for a Cause) pattern by Moda, and Step by Step (The Teacher’s Pet) kit with Moda fabrics.

I had such a good time and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Showing Off on Saturday

by Michelle on March 12, 2011

Today Joey and I attended the Great Big Texas Home Show at Cowboy Stadium. We saw lots of great vendors and grabbed some freebies. Joey was thrilled to get to see the inside of the stadium. It is quite the stadium.

The Orkin Man was there with some pesty friends and for some reason I walked right up and agreed to hold this big fella. Joey said he was shocked. I told him that he better stick with me because I’m full of surprises. Who knows what I’ll do next?
